On this occasion, Zurab Tsereteli was awarded the UNESCO Picasso Gold Medal by the Director-General. He stated that in the year of the 250th Anniversary of the foundation of the Russian Academy of Arts, this would be a fitting manner to pay tribute to the venerable and outstanding institution as well as to the remarkable personal contribution of Zurab Tsereteli in developing the Russian Academy of Arts as one of the most prestigious institutions devoted to art education and to promotion of cultural dialogue at the international level and the exchange of ideas between artists of all European nations.

The UNESCO Picasso Gold Medal was created in 1981 in honor of the great master and designed by another celebrated Spanish artist, Joan Miró.

The exhibition at UNESCO Headquarters (9-16 May) is dedicated to the 250th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Arts. The artist’s sculptures, paintings, works in the unique serigraphy technique and colorful enamels will be on display. During the exhibition Zurab Tsereteli will give classes for French and Russian children.
