Each year, World AIDS Day is commemorated on 1 December. This year marks 25 years since the world first heard the acronym ‘AIDS’.
In 2006, the theme of World AIDS Day is ‘accountability’. “This theme embraces responsibility for one’s personal conduct, solidarity between individuals and groups in different countries, and pledges made by major global organizations and national governments” says UNESCO’s Director-General, Koïchiro Matsuura.
