The workshop is targeting ten countries across Southern Africa: Angola, Lesotho, Namibia, South Africa and Swaziland (in the UNESCO Windhoek Cluster), and Botswana, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe (in the Harare Cluster) and 2 participants from each country will participate in the workshop. In addition, a representative of GTZ, 10 participants from related Namibian institutions and many other experts from different organizations are contributing in order to make the workshop fruitful.

The objective of the workshop is to disseminate information on the Strategy of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in Sub-Saharan Africa, with a view to facilitating implementation, engaging in advocacy, promoting ownership of the strategy in Southern Africa, and supporting the delegates in leading the development and implementation of a National Action Plan. The workshop will explore and identify the mechanisms to implement the SSA ESD strategy and focus on the role of ESD in addressing socio-economic, cultural, environmental and health issues, especially the HIV/AIDS pandemic in the sub-region.
