Third Ministerial Conference on Cultural Heritage in South-Eastern Europe
In the framework of the project “Cultural Heritage – A Bridge towards a shared future”, the Third Ministerial Conference on Cultural Heritage in South-Eastern Europe will take place in Ohrid, FYROM, on 3-4 November 2006, hosted by the Government of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, with the support of UNESCO-BRESCE

In July 2004, within the framework of the ceremonies for the inauguration of the reconstructed Old Bridge of Mostar, UNESCO and the Italian government promoted the organisation of the first Ministerial Conference on Cultural Heritage in South-Eastern Europe. The conference was aimed at enhancing regional cooperation for the preservation and promotion of south-east European cultural heritage, intended as a fundamental instrument of dialogue, integration, mutual understanding, as well as of human and economic development. The shared commitment declared on that occasion was confirmed and enhanced by the Second Ministerial conference, which took place in Venice on 25-26 November 2005, once again thanks to the joint efforts of UNESCO and of the Italian government.

In order to further strengthening this cooperation process, and to ensure its institutional continuity, the government of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia offered to host the third edition of the Ministerial Conference, which will take place in Ohrid, FYROM, on 3-4 November 2006. The objectives of the Conference are:
  • to present and assess results so far achieved in the operative follow-up to previous conferences;
  • to steer the prosecution of Ministerial conferences, and of deriving activities, towards new and more ambitious goals;
  • to provide this cooperation framework with new political, conceptual and financial resources.

    Participants in the conference will be the Ministers responsible for cultural affairs of the following countries: Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Italy, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, and Serbia.
