Samburu children near Maralal, (175 miles north of Nairobi), thrive thanks to “Loipi” community learning centres . The Loipi Project is part of Kenya’s nationwide Early Childhood Care and Education programme and is funded by the Christian Childrens’ Fund. There are 85 Loipi community learning centres in the Samburu district, and children from different communities gather at the closest one. Most materials used are locally made and produced and caregivers include mothers, grandmothers and other community members. A grandmother helping out.
