Informal Meetings of National Commissions at the 32nd General Confrerence

32nd Session of the General Conference

Five Informal Working Meetings with National Commissions for UNESCO were held with during the 32nd Session of the General Conference, one for each geographical region. These meetings first aimed at outlining the results of the activities carried out in 2002-2003. It then pointed out to the principles and orientations for guiding future National Commissions' activities towards the augmentation of UNESCO's visibility at national level and consolidation of capacity building.

Please download from this page the agendas and the report covering the five meetings.

Furthermore, an informal interregional Meeting of National Commissions' Chairpersons took place. It gathered 29 Chaipersons and 25 observers including Secretaries-General and Ministers of Education.

The meeting shed light on some of the key issues concerning better management of National Commissions and of their relations with the Secretariat and governments, as well as between Commissions. It also allowed representatives to express their concerns regarding the unequal structures of National Commissions and human and financial resources they benefit from, as well as issues related to the decentralisation policy.
