Monique Ilboudo: "Poverty is disregard for human rights"

Monique Ilboudo, Burkina Faso’s Minister for the Promotion of Human Rights calls for a change in the world’s approach to the fight against poverty. She argues that political and civil rights must be given the same recognition as economic, social and cultural rights if we are to overcome poverty.

17 October is the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, and this year brings to a close the First United Nations Decade for the Eradication of Poverty (1997-2006).
