Intangible Heritage meeting to be held in Venezuela

The VII Meeting for the Promotion and Dissemination of Intangible Heritage of the Ibero-American Countries will be held in Venezuela from 17 - 22 October 2006, sponsored by the UNESCO Regional Office for Culture in Latin America and the Caribbean. The VII Meeting will be devoted to the subject of: Intangible Heritage – Management for Cultural Diversity.
The Meeting, as all the previous ones, is organized by the Corporación para la Promoción y Difusión de la Cultura de Colombia (Corporation for the Promotion and Dissemination of Culture of Colombia) with the support of the host country. Mrs. Isadora de Norden is the General Director of the VII Meeting where academic and artistic delegations from Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, United States, México, Panama, Peru and Venezuela will participate.

With the support of the UNESCO Regional Office, a delegation from the Dominican Republic will participate for the first time with the Cocolo Dancing Drama Tradition, which has been proclaimed Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.

As a follow-up to the Project Endangered Languages and Diversity in the Amazon Region, the Regional Office is organizing a Workshop on Culture and Biodiversity in the Amazon in the framework of the VII Meeting. Likewise, during the VII Meeting, the results of the regional meeting “New Approaches of Cultural Diversity: The Role of Communities”, held in Havana, Cuba from 7-10 February 2006 will be presented by the Regional Office. The book: “Endangered Languages and Oral Traditions in the Amazon: Diversity at risk? Number 15 of the annual Oralidad (publication of the Regional Office) devoted to indigenous roots, with a special dossier on languages in the Amazon will be also presented in the framework of the VII Meeting.
