Training
The Section of National Commissions organizes its training activities at two levels:
Inter-Regional Training Seminars: They are organized once every two years and exclusively reserved for the newly-appointed Secretaries-General from all five regions. These seminars are held in UNESCO HQs for the duration of one week. They are convened in English and French languages. They serve as an occasion for new Secretaries-General to familiarize themselves with UNESCO’s programmes and procedures, the HQs structure and services, the roles and responsibilities of National Commissions and most importantly, to establish personal contacts.
Regional/Sub-Regional Training Seminars: They are regularly held in different parts of the world for the duration of three days. They are usually attended by the Deputy Secretaries-General or Programme Specialists of National Commissions (Secretaries-General can also participate if they could not benefit from the Interregional Seminars in Paris). These Seminars are hosted by a National Commission and held either in English, French, Spanish or Arabic. The participants are trained about UNESCO’s programmes, procedures, activities of National Commissions, etc. Presentations are made by the representatives of UNESCO HQs, UNESCO Field Offices as well as experienced Secretaries-General.
