Paris - Peace education expert Pierre Weil will present his method of resolving conflicts and living in peace on Monday April 29 at a conference organized to mark the release of his new book, “The Art of Living in Peace,” co-published by UNESCO and UNIPEACE. UNESCO’s Assistant Director-General for Education, John Daniel, will open the meeting at 5 p.m. at UNESCO Headquarters (Room XI,).

In 2000, Pierre Weil received an honourable mention from UNESCO Director-General Koďchiro Matsuura for the UNESCO Prize for Peace Education. He has a psychology doctorate from Paris University VII and was taught by renowned psychologists and teachers Henri Wallon, André Rey and Jean Piaget. Teaching peace has always been one of his major interests. He set up the City of Peace Foundation in Brazil in 1986, which in turn founded the International Holistic University of Brasilia (UNIPEACE), of which he isrector.

The University has enabled Pierre Weil to design an education for peace curriculum, whose core seminar, “The Art of Living in Peace," presents a method that takes account of all a person’s psychological, emotional and physical characteristics, so that learning about peace can be internalised.

This method, published in French and English with funding from UNESCO, the Transdev Foundation and the minister-president of Belgium’s Wallonia-Brussels Community, is currently taught in Buenos Aires, Lisbon, Paris, Brussels and Israel, where Arab and Jewish teachers have attended the seminar together.
