New quality guidelines for cross border higher educationUNESCO and the Organization for Economic Coorpation and Development (OECD) will present their Guidelines for quality provision in cross-border higher education during a press conference at UNESCO Headquarters on 5 December (Room 9, 3 p.m.).
The UNESCO/OECD Guidelines offer tools and best practices to assess the quality of higher education provided across borders to protect students and other stakeholders from the risks of misinformation, low quality providsion and qualifications of limited validity.
They have been developed in response to the exponential growth in higher education around the world, with more students than ever before are studying abroad and academic staff, researchers and other professionals increasingly mobile. There has been a huge increase in providers of higher education, which has become a major export.
The Guidelines will be presented at the press conference by:
•Peter Smith, UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Education,
•Berglind Ásgeirsdóttir, Deputy Secretary General of the OECD,
•Bernard Hugonnier Deputy Director for Education at the OECD
•Stamenka Uvalic-Trumbic from UNESCO’s Division of Higher Education.
