The nomination ceremony took place on 21 Novembeber at UNESCO Headquarters after a meeting between the Romanian President Traian Basescu and UNESCO Director-General Koïchiro Matsuura. Mariana Nicolesco was nominated UNESCO Artist for Peace “in recognition of her commitment to musical heritage, artistic creation and dialogue between cultures,” and “her contribution to promoting the ideals of the Organization.”
