UNESCO’s Director-General offers UNESCO’s support to countries ravaged by hurricane StanAs El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua and Mexico continue efforts to assist victims of the massive flooding and mudslides that devastated communities in the wake of Hurricane Stan last week, UNESCO’s Director-General Koichiro Matsuura has addressed his condolences to the four countries and offered the Organization’s help and expertise.
In letters addressed to their respective governments, Mr Matsuura expressed his deep sorrow at the human loss these countries have suffered, as well as the incalculable material damage. He asked the authorities to extend to the people of El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua and Mexico his solidarity in these difficult moments.
