UNESCO General Conference - 33rd Session

 Ceremony to mark the 60th Anniversary of UNESCO

UNESCO celebrates its 60th anniversary on 16 November this year. To mark this important event, the General Conference will meet in an exceptional session devoted to this commemoration in the afternoon of 5 October.

To inaugurate this celebration, the 9th symphony of Ludwig van Beethoven (listed under the Memory of the World International Register), will be performed by the Radiosinfonieorchester des Hessischen Rundfunks in association with the UNESCO Choral Group.

The ceremony will be honored by the official visits of the President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the President of the Federal Republic of Germany who, in their interventions, will highlight the importance of human dignity which is the central theme of the 60th anniversary celebrations. The President of the General Conference, the Chairman of the Executive Board, and the Director-General of UNESCO will also make brief statements.

This event will be transmitted live in a webcast from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
