20-05-2005 4:00 pm On the occasion of Africa Day, celebrated on May 25 every year, UNESCO’s Africa Group will host a series of events, entitled “Africa Week”, at Organization Headquarters from May 23 to 27 which will be marked by the visit of the President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo.
On May 23 (3 p.m., outside Room I), an exhibition on “Pan-African music” and African musical instruments will be opened. It will remain on show through Friday May 27. A cultural programme on the evening of May 26 (8 p.m., Room I) will also include a fashion show.

Africa Day, May 25, will be marked by the visit to UNESCO of the President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, who is also the Chairman of the African Union and of the Committee of Heads of State and Government in charge of the Implementation of the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD).

On May 26, the Minister of Culture, Arts and Tourism of Congo, Jean-Claude Gakosso, will give a lecture on the fifth Panafrican Music Festival (5 p.m., Room II) organized by Congo in July.

Africa films will be screened on May 27 from noon to 2 p.m., followed at 8 p.m. by a reception with an African buffet.

All these events are to be accessed through the entrance situated at 119 avenue de Suffren, Paris 15.
