|During the 2001 General Conference, UNESCO decided to take part in the forthcoming world celebration of the 300th anniversary of the founding of the city of Saint Petersburg. In 2003, its quarterly magazine Museum International devoted an entire issue to the city’s renowned Hermitage Museum. The Russian Federation, for its part, issued a medal on behalf of UNESCO on the theme of “dialogue among cultures,” at the Director-General’s disposal to reward persons and institutions for their contribution to the promotion of intercultural dialogue.Struck at the Saint Petersburg Mint, this was also the last creation by the late A. Korolyuk, one of the Russian Federation’s most illustrious medalists. The obverse shows a view of the city along the Neva River, the reverse is inscribed Dialogue of Cultures in UNESCO’s six official languages, along with the Organization’s logo. The historic centre of Saint Petersburg and related groups of monuments were inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1990.
