Gender Equality and Development in the Caribbean

A research project on Gender Peace and Development was started in the Caribbean in 2001 as a collaborative effort of UNESCO and the Centre for Gender and Development Studies of the University of the West Indies.

The objectives of the project were:
  • to document all work that has been done, or is being done in the Caribbean on each of these issues (gender, peace and development)
  • to identify what policy or actions need to be implemented to correct inequalities or imbalances in these areas, and
  • to find potential partners, drawn from all sectors of the society who can help to design and implement strategies to address the needs.
