Second session of Intergovernmental Meeting of Experts on the preliminary draft convention on the protection of the diversity of cultural contents and artistic expressionsThe second session of the intergovernmental meeting of experts on the preliminary draft convention on the protection of cultural contents and artistic expressions will be held at UNESCO from January 31 to February 12 (Room II).
The governmental experts – invitations were issued to all of UNESCO’s 190 Member States – will examine the text produced by the drafting committee that met in October 2004 when it incorporated the written comments submitted by Member States into the first version of the draft preliminary convention*. During the second session, the experts will also examine comments from intergovernmental organizations such as the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the World Trade Organization (WTO), as well as non-governmental organizations. On the basis of the outcome of the experts’ working session, which aims to produce a consolidated document, UNESCO Director-General Koïchiro Matsuura will submit a preliminary report along with a preliminary draft of the convention to Member States, in preparation for its examination during the 33rd session of UNESCO’s General Conference next October.
