UNESCO Office Beirut and Regional Bureau for Education
The role of the Regional Office is to adjust UNESCO’s biennial program implementation to the specific characteristics of the region and to ensure the Organization’s active presence in its Member States.
Since the beginning of 2002, the UNESCO Office in Beirut assumed two roles:
- Cluster Office for the following Arab States: Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Iraq and the Palestinian Territories
- Regional Bureau for Education in the Arab States More

UNESCO Beirut Mission to Syria: Quality Education for Iraqi children refugees
As part of UNESCO’s efforts to improve the educational situation of over one million Iraqi refugees living now in Syria, a UNESCO Beirut team went to Syria on an early assessement mission and met with UN counterparts and attended the United Nations Country Team(UNCT)meeting. The meeting came upon the request of Dr. Abdel Moneim Osman Director UNESCO Beirut, as UNESCO Beirut is a member of UNCT Syria, and its Director is the non-resident Representative of UNESCO in Syria. Focusing Resources for Effective School Health (FRESH) A FRESH start to enhancing the quality and Equity of EducationIn the 90’s there was a growing recognition in the region for the need to improve comprehensive approaches to school health and school health education. The interagency initiative FRESH was launched by UNESCO, UNICEF, WHO, and the World Bank during the World Education Forum, Dakar, April 2000. The role of UNESCO is to “foster the necessary input from the grass root level through promoting enhanced FRESH awareness and participation among pupils, teachers and the community”. More |

Séminaire « Gestion de la Conservation Préventive des Musées » UNESCO Beirut 22 Sep 2007 - 27 Sep 2007 Le Bureau de l’UNESCO à Beyrouth en étroite coopération avec la Section des musées et des objets culturels et le Comité National libanais de l’ICOM (Conseil International des Musées) organisent un séminaire sur la « Gestion de la Conservation Préventive des Musées » du 22-26 Octobre. Ce séminaire, qui cherche à répondre aux demandes des professionnels des musées libanais dans le domaine de la gestion, de la conservation, de la préservation et de la sécurité des collections, a été initié en mai 2006 à la suite d’un questionnaire pour l’évaluation des besoins en matière d’administration des collections. Une visite d’expert aux différents musées libanais membres de l’ICOM a permis de préciser ces besoins. More |
