UNESCO publishes latest volume in its History of Civilizations of Central AsiaParis – The latest volume in the History of Civilizations of Central Asia has just been released by UNESCO Publishing. Giving valuable insights into the background to contemporary political developments in the region, Development in Contrast: From the Sixteenth to the Mid-Nineteenth Century is the fifth and penultimate volume of the History. It will be presented at UNESCO Headquarters on Thursday October 16, at 6 pm, during UNESCO’s General Conference.
The multi-volume History of Civilizations of Central Asia is a comprehensive scientific work, covering the history of this vast region, from the earliest times to the present day. Compiled by over 300 scholars, mostly from the region, the History covers the lands lying at the heart of the Eurasian continent, namely, the territories of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, North India, Western China, Mongolia, Southern Siberia and the Republics of the former USSR, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
