Global Alliance for Cultural Diversity
In collaboration with other international organizations, UNESCO promotes multilateral partnerships among public, private and civil society sectors to implement projects that strengthen local cultural industries and encourage respect for copyright and neighboring rights.

glbalalliancecut.jpg The philosophy of the Global Alliance
In order to leverage the dormant capital of cultural activities, UNESCO matches the organizations who have something to offer - skills, know-how, technical advice or financial support - with practitioners in the cultural industries who need help to flourish and succeed in business.

The Alliance is looking for skills that will help build sustainable capacities in local communities and developing countries. It focuces on facilitating the exchange of expertise on the local level that can help cultural industries develop into sustainable livelihoods in the long-term. The projects focus on the following areas:

  • commercial issues, providing training in business skills and better networking between enterprises and industries in the developed and developing countries;
  • offering assistance in market research and access and creating new distribution channels in both regional and international markets;
  • technical issues, lawyers trained in copyright and neighbouring rights who can educate cultural creators and offer advice on national legislation, businessmen and bankers who can teach how to develop effective business plans, specialists who can demonstrate how to use new creative technologies or production techniques; all these concrete skills are vital to unlock the full potential of the cultural industries around the world;
  • financial support which allows us to expand our work and make a greater impact.

Whether you wish to make a financial donation, second an employee to mentor a particular project or simply donate more limited amounts of your time and energy, the Alliance is the forum to make your contribution; it welcomes and counts on all concrete offers of interest and support.
