Earthsavers DREAMS Ensemble appointed UNESCO Artists for Peace

Earthsavers DREAMS Ensemble, a renowned Philippine theatre company made up of people who are disabled, from disadvantaged backgrounds or indigenous communities will be officially appointed UNESCO Artists for Peace by UNESCO’s Director-General Koïchiro Matsuura, at a ceremony to be held at the Organization’s Headquarters on September 29.

The Ensemble, which has won accolades around the world for its moving performances, has been nominated in recognition of its dedication to UNESCO’s aims and ideals, and its contribution, through the performing arts, to the propagation and promotion of the Organization’s message of peace, tolerance and hope.

“The objectives of this Ensemble, which offers these young persons a real opportunity for self-fulfilment through artistic activity, bringing joy and inspiration to all who have the privilege to see them in action, are fully in keeping with UNESCO’s principles and ideals,” said UNESCO Director-General Koïchiro Matsuura.

The nomination ceremony will also be attended by the president of the Philippines Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, who will also address UNESCO’s General Conference which opens on the same day.
