Collaboration between UNESCO and the National Commissions At the 25th session of the General Conference, the Director-General was invited to report on collaboration between UNESCO and the National Commissions. Document 154 EX/28
|
|
At the 25th session in 1989, the General Conference adopted 25 C/Resolution 15.212, which invited the Director-General in paragraph 2(g) "to report on collaboration between UNESCO and the National Commissions". This report was submitted to the Executive Board in pursuance of that resolution.
The first part of the document underlines the main achievements of National Commissions in 1996 and 1997. It refers to their role as bodies in charge of consultation, evaluation, liaison and information.
Other functions of National Commissions are also mentioned, namely the mobilization and leadership of new partnerships in addition to fund-raising activities.
The second part stresses the means of strengthening cooperation between UNESCO and its National Commissions through staff training and the enhancement of their administrative structures.
Some of the innovative proposals endorsed by the General Conference at its 29th session are also reviewed at the end of this document.
