Activities Partnership between UNESCO and parliamentarians can take various forms:
Provision of international expertise in key fields in which parliamentarians may be called upon to legislate or to ratify conventions
Drafting of joint projects, information exchange, advisory services on particular issues in collaboration with the programme sectors
Creation and strengthening of cooperative links by the establishment of global networks linking parliaments, municipalities and the intellectual and scientific communities
Joint information campaigns focusing on areas of shared interest, organization of seminars
Assistance to parliamentarians in the planning, execution and evaluation of specific projects
Participation in the work of UNESCO’s National Commissions

| Inter-Parliamentary Conference of Arab States

Following the first Inter-Parliamentary Conference of Arab States (Beirut, 14 February 2005) deferred due to the tragic attack which cost the life of former Lebanese Prime Minister, Mr Rafik Hariri, UNESCO organized another Inter-Parliamentary Conference of Arab States in Cairo, on 26-27 November 2005.
This Conference covered three main themes: partnerships between UNESCO and parliamentarians, Education for All, international conventions in the field of culture, and the promotion of human rights and democracy. You will find hereafter the agenda of the Conference. More |
| Conference of Elected Representatives of the Mediterranean

| XXXIIe session of the Parliamentary Assembly of Francophonie (APF)

UNESCO intervened at the 32nd session of APF.
After the presentation of Mrs. Katerina Stenou, the UNESCO Director-General’s representative, the Parliamentary Assembly of APF adopted a resolution calling for the rapid ratification of the UNESCO Convention on Cultural Diversity in order its entry into force in the near future. More |

UNESCO and the Inter-Parliamentary Union are pleased to present this publication, which results from the fast developing co-operation between the two organizations in accordance with the Agreement signed for this purpose in 1997. The agreement has been followed up by regular dialogue between UNESCO and IPU to advance cooperation on common priorities. The article outlines UNESCO’s strategy for co-operation with Parliamentarians throughout the world. It forms the basis on discussions at a round table meeting on “The dialogue between UNESCO and the Parliamentary Community” the organization held in Paris in November 2001.
The Paris meeting allowed for the redefining of the terms of dialogue between the organization and Parliamentarians and the participants formulated concrete propositions to reinforce the co-operation between the two sides.More |
