UNESCO is encouraging entries in a competition to identify “Champions of Quality Education in Africa” supported by the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation in partnership with Ashoka’s Changemakers initiative.
The aim is to identify individuals and organizations in Africa that are making a difference in the quality of schooling. Entries should demonstrate innovative educational approaches to improving learning outcomes in primary and/or secondary education, especially in reading, writing, mathematics and critical thinking. Individuals or organizations must be located in or have operations in Africa and programmes must have had a demonstrated impact on learning. Assessments will be based on innovation, impact and sustainability.
This is an opportunity to identify programmes that are making a difference and have the potential to help improve national educational systems.
The deadline for submissions is June 3, 2009.
