Former Deputy Minister of Education of the Republic of Korea, Mr Gwang-Jo Kim has been appointed new Director of the UNESCO Regional Bureau for Education in Asia and the Pacific in Bangkok. The bureau serves almost two thirds of the world’s population in 47 countries across the Asia-Pacific region.
As Deputy Minister of Education and Human Resources, Mr Kim initiated the “Global Human Resources Forum”, aimed at providing an international platform for sharing information, knowledge and best practices. He also played a key role in the Korean education reforms aimed at restructuring the whole educational system. Mr Gwang-Jo Kim took up the post at the end of January.
Born in 1955, Mr Kim is a former professor at the Graduate School of Education at Keimyung University. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from Korea University in 1978. He also holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D in Education from Harvard University. |
