  The ‘Sshhh’ Game - Multiplication tables game
Forgetting and making mistakes are often humiliating occasions. In this game; these are turned into occasions for good humoured laughter and for further learning.

  • sit in a circle;
  • decide on a small number say two, three or four. Suppose the number decided upon is two then the child who begins the game says ‘one’;
  • the next child does not say ‘two’ but says ‘ssshhh’;
  • the next child says ‘three’;
  • the next child does not say ‘four’ but says ‘ssshhh’.

    In this manner all the multiples of two are articulated as ‘ssshhh’.

    If any child articulates the multiple then the game begins all over from ‘one’.

    In this game, the child who ‘knows’ and does not ‘know’ are all on an equal footing. Several nearly all make mistakes (the game is designed thus). In fact, if the also participates, s/he may also make a mistake (forget to say ‘ssshhh’) and then the children can feel thrilled!
