The Prize was created in 2005 through the generosity of the Government of the Kingdom of Bahrain. It consists of a sum of US$50,000 equally divided between the two prize winners, as well as diplomas.

Every year the Prize rewards two projects and activities for excellent models, best practices, and creative use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) to enhance learning, teaching and overall educational performance.
