The Barefoot College |
Tilonia, a village in the arid State of Rajasthan, India, is home to an active voluntary agency, the Social Work and Research Centre (SWRC).
Set up in 1972, this agency works with local teachers, health care workers, solar engineers and hand pump mechanics in a comprehensive development plan with and for the rural poor.
Over the years, it has grown to bring educational services, safe drinking water, health care and employment to the village around. It has set up 150 night school in 89 villages for children who work during the day. To date 15.000 children have passed through these schools, where village culture, history and skills appropriate to the regional context are privileged.

The Puppet theatre
Jockim Cha Cha (the uncle-practical joker) is the most popular spokesperson puppet in the theatre created by the Tilonia Communication Team. He introduces the puppet shows, delivers the moral of the story and leads the debates with the audience. As a puppet he does not get involved in delicate or controversial issues.- More |
