> Sub-regional Induction / Refresher Seminar & Mapping the UNEVOC Network -2006-05-15 8:31 am

8 to 10 May, 2006, Colombo, Sri Lanka
The UNESCO–UNEVOC International Centre is organising an induction - cum - refresher sub-regional seminar on enhancing the effectiveness of UNEVOC Centres, focussing on UNEVOC networking, management, mapping and thematic clustering for selected UNEVOC Centres in the following countries in East Asia, and West Asia and South Asia: Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Iran, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, and Sri Lanka. Subjects of networking strategies, management, mapping, and sharing of best practices and innovative experiences are to be treated. Also, to be covered are new developments at UNESCO–UNEVOC, in particular the available services, studies, different forms of assistance and opportunities for UNEVOC Centres to network and assist vocational educators and leaders, and possible joint activities.

Objectives

The objectives of the seminar are as follows:

- to acquaint the managers of UNEVOC Centres with their role and functions, UNEVOC network strategies, and ways to effectively manage UNEVOC Centres;
- to examine different ways of building effective national UNEVOC networks and the profile of UNEVOC Centres;
- to stimulate discussion of collaborative activities between UNEVOC Centres;
- to acquaint the UNEVOC professionals about thematic concentration and clustering of UNEVOC Centres.
- to expose the managers to UNEVOC services, especially the E-Forum;

Expected Outcomes/ Results

A number of results/ outcomes are expected from the seminar. These include the following:

- enhanced knowledge and skill about networking and effective provision of services to vocational education practitioners and leaders;
- improved management of UNEVOC Centres;
- increased confidence to request information, and to communicate and share experiences among the managers; and
- enhanced UNEVOC networking and initiation of collaborative activities.

Funding of Invited Participants

For the invited participants from developing countries UNESCO – UNEVOC would provide funding for airfares, accommodation, and living expenses. The Technical and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC) would be responsible for secretariat services, all logistical arrangements (including the sending of the air tickets to the participants), local transport, computers for training, and accommodation bookings.

Date & Venue

The sub-regional seminar will run from 8 to 10 May, 2006, with the participants from outside Sri Lanka arriving on 7 May, 2006. It will be held at Hotel Samudra in Colombo 3, Sri Lanka. Unless advised otherwise, the accommodation for the participants will be at Hotel Samudra.
