New UNESCO/UNICEF report on children out of school

27-02-2006 - One hundred and fifteen million primary school-age children are out of school according to a joint UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS / UNICEF global estimate. This number equals 18% - or almost one in five - of the children worldwide in this age group.

And many of the children who are in school may never complete their primary education or finish it without attaining even basic literacy skills.
