The Dominican Republic became a member of UNESCO on November 4, 1946. The country is covered by the UNESCO Office Havana, a Cluster Office which also covers Cuba, Haiti and Aruba.
The Dominican Republic holds two UNESCO Chairs, including a UNESCO Chair for peace, human rights and democracy, established in 1998 at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo.
As of September 2006, the Dominican Republic has 36 schools participating in the UNESCO’s Associated Schools Project Network (ASPnet).
