Colombia joined UNESCO on October 31, 1947. The country is covered by the UNESCO Office in Quito, Ecuador.
According to the 2005 edition of the Education for All Global Monitoring Report, Colombia occupies an intermediate position as regards its fulfilment of the objectives set for 2015.
The adult literacy rate is close to 94 percent, while education is compulsory for all children aged between 5 and 15. As of September 2006, Columbia has 58 schools participating in UNESCO’s Associated Schools Project Network (ASPnet).
