Azerbaijan joined UNESCO on June 3, 1992. In 2005, the Conference on Educational Reform in Azerbaijan took place in Baku.

This conference, which was organized with the help and participation of UNESCO, followed a meeting at UNESCO Headquarters to discuss the best proposals for pursuing the programme of educational reform.

The latter is a priority area of cooperation between Azerbaijan and UNESCO.
