Brunei Darussalam became the 191st Member State of UNESCO on 17 March 2005. The country is covered by the UNESCO Office in Jakarta, Indonesia.
In October 2005, Brunei Darussalam participated for the first time in the work of the General Conference, at its 33rd session, during which a special ceremony was held to mark its accession.
