The programme on Guidance, Counselling and Youth Development for Africa is a response to the growing number of social issues faced by African young people, particularly girls. Adolescent pregnancies, unemployment, street children, child prostitutes, HIV victims, drug abuse in the young and school dropouts are foremost among the concerns of African Ministers of Education. They have decided that the time has come for education systems to play a more active role in the growth and the development of young people. Following the four technical working committee meetings of the thirteen countries in the English-speaking region held since 1996, a technical working committee was established that then entrusted responsibility for preparing the individual modules on selected topics to the following countries or specialists: Modules in English: Module 1: Guidance Module 2: Counselling Module 3: Social Work Module 4: Behaviour Modification Module 5: Gender Sensitivity Module 6: Workshop Administration and Condult Guidelines Module 7: Adolescent Reproductive Health Module 8: Guidance and Counselling Programme Development Module 9: Enterprise Education Module 10: HIV/AIDS Counselling for Children and Young People Modules in French (different to those in English): Module 1: Organisation personnelle de sa vie Module 2: Droits et devoirs de la fille et de la femme Module 3: Santé génésique et sexuelle des adolescent(e)s Module 4: Evaluation de la relation elèves-maîtres particulierèment de point de vue des filles Module 5: Participation dela femme à la vie publique Module 6: Préparation à la vie economique et à l’insertion socio-professionelle de la jeune fille et de la femme Module 7: Gestion de la vie familiale, domestique et personnelle Module 8: Guide d’initiation au conseil et à la relation d’aide Module 9: Mise en Place d'un Programme de Conseil d'Orientation Module 10: Principes directeurs pour l’administration et la conduite d’un atelier
