An estimated 40 million out-of-school children have some form of disability. This number is growing due to increasing poverty, armed conflict, child labour, violence and HIV/AIDS. The number of children under the age of 18 with disabilities around the world has been estimated to be between 120 and 150 million. More than 90% of children with disabilities in developing countries do not attend school. UNESCO supports schooling for children with disabilities through sub-regional workshops, technical assistance and a range of different projects.
"... schools should accommodate all children regardless of their physical, intellectual, social, emotional, linguistic or other conditions."
