UNESCO and FAO have joined efforts in the establishment of this flagship programme. The initiative seeks to address rural-urban disparities, which are a serious concern to governments and the international community as a whole. Its objectives include building awareness of the crucial role that education for rural people plays in reaching the Millennium Goals of eradicating extreme poverty and hunger and achieving education for all.
