One in five people above the age of 15 cannot communicate through literacy, and over 100 million children are not in school. The UNITED NATIONS LITERACY DECADE (2003-2012) represents a new opportunity to promote literacy in the North and the South, in urban and rural areas, for those in school and those out-of-school, for adults and children, for boys and girls and men and women. Under the banner "Literacy as Freedom”, this is a new vision of literacy, and encourages actions by communities. More |
