Celebration event at UNESCO's Headquarters in Paris

on the occasion of International Mother Language Day 2004

- Keynote speech by UNESCO's Director-General Mr Koïchiro Matsuura

- Inauguration of the exhibition by the Assistant-Director-General of Education, John Daniel

- Statement by the Ambassador, Permanent Delegate of Bangladesh to UNESCO, His Exc. Mr Jahangir Saadat.

During the event children from Armenia, Bangladesh, Boliva, Japan and Madagascar will sing in their local languages.

There will also be showing of extracts from a documentary on endangered languages "The Last Word".

The event is organized by UNESCO's Education Sector in cooperation with the Culture Sector.

Celebration activities will also take place in countries throughout the world.
