Business and Private Sector Sustainability calls for a dynamic balance of many factors, including the cultural, social and economic requirements of humankind and the imperative need to safeguard the natural environment, of which humanity is a part. The real goal is to improve the quality of life for all and to rethink and adjust lifestyles to achieve a sustainable future in peace, especially for the poor and deprived, within the carrying capacity of supporting ecosystems.

 
Sustainable management systems for business offer an excellent opportunity to contribute to these objectives. Improving technology and the production process in an environmentally-friendly manner and, at the same time, creating employment opportunities and offering education and training to the workforce and neighboring communities, should be on the agenda of every responsible company.

Graduates of technical and vocational schools have a crucial role in inventing and implementing practical solutions to current problems, such as environmental degradation and should therefore be aware of the concept and challenge of sustainable development. They represent the interface between nature, technology, economy and society and have a key role to play in helping society resolve environmental and development issues.

The main concern is improvement of the quality of life through efficient production and rational use of natural resources, reduction of waste and the enhancement of services. This demands the involvement of governments, business, technicians, communities and households.
