UNESCO Education Reconstruction Programme for Afghanistan (Transitional support strategy 2002-2004) |
|
| |
UNESCO will focus on key aspects of capacity-building in the Ministry of Education, serving primary education as well as other sub-sectors of education, including departments concerned with planning and management, school buildings and infrastructure, pedagogy, curriculum and textbooks, and teacher training. |
|
A UNESCO mission of eight education specialists visited Kabul from 5 to 20 May 2002 to prepare a detailed program of UNESCO support for educational reconstruction in Afghanistan. The mission met the Ministers of Education, Higher Education and their staff, as well as with UN and other agencies.
The mission took note of the almost total disruption of education activities in recent years and the impact of 23 years of conflict. It was decided to prepare a program of support for the Transitional Government, which would complement ongoing activities and ensure a balanced and coherent approach to the reconstruction of the education sector.
