FRESH and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD)

In order to achieve sustainable human development, we need as individuals understand the consequences of behaviour, feel responsible and have the ability to solve problems and take decisions that don’t compromise the choices of future generations. Sustainability demands not only the manual skills which are needed for survival and livelihood but also the skills that will help us develop reasoning, enhance agency and build potential through social capital.

An education geared to tapping each individual's talents and potential and developing learners' personalities needs to emphasize the acquisition of a combination of psycho-social capabilities and manual skills, a education that encompasses learning to know, learning to be, learning to live together and learning to do. The dimensions expressed in these four pillars of education provide a possible framework for a quality education that enhances individual capabilities in present and future generations and fosters sustainable human development.

  Life Skills

The FRESH Core Component Nº3 on Skills-based health education helps young people to acquire life skills such as communication, negotiation and refusal skills, and to think critically, solve problems and make independent decisions.
