First Plenary Session of the ICC |

The First Plenary Session of the International Coordination Committee for the Safeguarding of the Cultural Heritage of Iraq (ICC) was held at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris on 24-25 May 2004. 23 international experts on cultural heritage, as well as 11 observers such as representatives of ICOM, ICCROM, ICOMOS, ICA, IFLA, ISESCO, INTERPOL, WMF and the Getty Conservation Institute participated in the meeting. The experts were from Austria, Belgium, France, Poland, Switzerland, Germany, Iraq, Italy, Japan, Turkey, the Czech Republic, Norway, Latvia, Sweden, Egypt, the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom, the United States of America and the Syrian Arab Republic. The Committee meeting, under the auspices of the Minister of Culture of Iraq, aimed at evaluating the post-conflict assistance in conservation of cultural heritage in Iraq, and at coordinating activities and efforts in this sense. At the end of the session, the members of the ICC agreed upon seven recommendations (English - Arabic) for future activities. The Final Report can be downloaded in English and Arabic. The next Plenary Session that will review the follow-up of the recommendations is foreseen for Spring 2005.
