Title of the Paper, including a short abstract:

Creating Culture, Images of: Peace, Confrontation ,reconciliation and Identity

Education can play an important role in defining a narrative of culture. The narrative of two sides in a conflict situation, usually differ. It would seem that through the exchange, sharing and celebration of cultural heritage, interest, respect and empathy can help develop understandings of the other. Within the education process the arts offer different groups the opportunity to examine the beliefs and values which have underpinned societies at particular points in time. The arts offer profound insights into the cognitive affective concerns of citizens within particular societies. Drawing upon the research of Prof Daniel Bar-Tal and Prof Yona Teichman on stereotyping and prejudice of the other in Israeli society, we intend to look inside and critically analyse the construction of culture by examining artistic images of peace, confrontation, reconciliation and identity.
