Permanent Memorial at the United Nations in Honour of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade

The Permanent Memorial in Honour of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade was discussed at the Press Conference held yesterday in New York for the International Day of Remenbrance of Victims of Slavery, 25 March 2010.

Mr. Raymond Wolfe, Permanent Representative of Jamaica, who is leading the efforts to erect a permanent memorial, said that a committee of interested States had been established to oversee the project, with Member States from CARICOM and the African Union playing a primary role.

An international design competition is expected to be launched shortly in this regard.
