Cultural Heritage objects Database. Fighting the Illicit appropriation of Cultural Heritage

The Workshop on ”Cultural Heritage objects Database. Fighting the Illicit Appropriation of Cultural Heritage" to take place in Rome from 26 through 28 January 2010 is organized by UNESCO Venice Culture unit in cooperation with the Carabinieri for the Safeguard of Cultural Heritage.

The main focus of the workshop is to strengthen the procedures for documentation and inventory-making of cultural heritage; to identify and discuss related problems, needs and priorities as well as definition of possible and find out solutions to combat the illicit traffic of cultural property and to share experiences, knowledge and good practices in the field of “Cultural Heritage Database” and, more in general, in relation to the safeguarding of Cultural Heritage objects.

The workshop will contribute to stress on the importance of the aim of Database as an instrument to protect cultural heritage, by fighting against looting, theft, illegal export and import in the light of UNESCO Convention of 1970 on the Means of Prohibiting and Preventing the Illicit Import, Export and Transfer of Ownership of Cultural Property and of the UNESCO Convention of 2001 on the Protection of Underwater Cultural Heritage.

The Workshop is targeting mainly the relevant experts from South-East European countries who can benefit of the excellence and many years’ experience in this field of Carabinieri Tutela Patrimonio Culturale.
