2010, International Year for the Rapprochement of Cultures

The year 2010 will be celebrated as the International Year for the Rapprochement of Cultures (see Resolutions). The goal of the International Year consists in making the rapprochement of cultures the hallmark of all policy-making at local, national, regional and international levels, involving the greatest number of relevant stakeholders.

Events Intercultural Encounters in the Hellenized Orient
This conference takes an innovative approach to crucial events in history and mythology arising from intercultural encounters that have ensued over the centuries.

The purpose of the conference is to present history in a new light. Indeed for too long, history has been dictated by a biased approach placing more emphasis on the narrative of conquests, conflicts and antagonisms than that of cultural interactions, which leave indelible traces.

This encounter is fully consonant with the preparations underway for the International Year for the Rapprochement of Cultures (2010), for which UNESCO has been designated lead agency by the United Nations General Assembly and which will give, in the appropriate institutional framework, a new impetus to approaches to cross-cultural perspectives and interpretations regarding our past, present, and future.
