Buenos Aires World Book Capital 2011

Buenos Aires was nominated as World Book Capital 2011 on the account of the consolidated strategy underpinning the programme, as well as of the quality and variety of its candidature file

The Selection Committee of the World Book Capital 2011, made up of the representatives of the International Publishers Association (IPA), the International Booksellers Federation (IBF), the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) and UNESCO, met on 12 June 2009 and examined the following candidatures:

  • Buenos Aires (Argentina)
  • Caracas (Venezuela)
  • Lagos (Nigeria)
  • La Habana (Cuba)
  • Porto Novo (Benin)
  • Sharjah (United Arab Emirates)
  • Tehran (Iran)

The city of Buenos Aires was nominated as World Book Capital 2011 on the account of the consolidated strategy underpinning the programme, as well as of the quality and variety of its candidature file.
