DREAM Centre, Monrovia (Liberia)
With funding from FELISSIMO Corporation and in collaboration with UNESCO, Don Bosco Homes Association opened a DREAM Centre in Monrovia in June 2006 to host young people affected by fourteen years of war who required some assistance for their proper reintegration into society. Liberia, as a post-conflict country, has as its mainstream the rehabilitation, reintegration, and empowerment of youth affected by the war.
All the activities carried out were in line with Don Bosco Homes Association mandate and work ethos, child rights and protection awareness. Knowing the rights of the young people put all staff members in the readied position to plan well, work fine, and relate nicely to them while assisting them through the process of psychosocial support. In line with this, a one-day child rights workshop was held.
The different activities have taken place with daily attendance of approximately 200 youths. Their creativity and artistic talents have been developed through Dancing, Reading, Expression, Arts, and Music. Many of them were illiterate. To overcome this difficulty, DBH staff has intensified the provision of literacy lessons.
